Do the courses offered by IMechE have any accreditation?

The courses IMechE deliver are mapped in accordance to UK Spec as set by the Engineering Council. Although these are short courses and are not overall qualifications, they are accredited by the Institution. Furthermore they do count towards your Continuous Professional Development. In addition, some courses offer external accreditation via awarding bodies such as Association for Project Management (APM) and Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Do I have to do anything to prepare for the course?

Please log in to the Learning Management System (LMS) to see if your course requires you to complete any pre-work or reading before attending.

Am I able to request that a particular course/topic is added in the future?

We are always interested in providing additional training courses to our members if there is an interest. If you would like to suggest a course, email training@imeche.org.

Booking

I’m interested in booking a course for my team, how can I go about this?

If you have 5 or more delegates who would like to attend, the option to have a trainer come to your premises is available. This will usually be more cost effective and additionally allow the workshop to be customised to your requirements.

If this is of interest to your organisation, get in contact with our training team. We require the following details:-

  • Number of Delegates
  • Location
  • Contact details for the booker
  • Course title of interest
  • Available dates that fit your requirements

Do you offer group discount training?

If you are interested in group discounted training, get in contact with our training team at training@imeche.org  so we can discuss your options.

Our unlimited learning pass (for individuals) are valid for 12 months from the day of purchase.

I’ve got two credits left on my learning pass but it expires soon, can you extend this?

All credits must be used before the pass expires. We will contact you in advance of the expiry date with a reminder.

When using the unlimited learning pass, can I still bring a colleague for free to applicable courses?

Users of the ULP will not be eligible for any other offers or deals including bring a colleague for free.

Can we hire your space for a custom training course?

We are able to hold a private company training session at our premises. When speaking with our training staff about private training, mention you would like to book a training room.

Is there a wait list for a sold out course?

Occasionally we can make arrangements to add an additional delegate to a course (although there is no guarantee this will be an option). If this option is not applicable, most courses run on multiple occasions throughout the year – get in contact with our training team to find a solution that works for you.

Do you have package deals that include your performance diagnostic tools?

We do not have package deals for all courses that include diagnostic tools, however our New Engineering Manager & Senior Engineering Manager courses include the Engineer360 tool as part of the course cost. If you are interested in purchasing a number of our tools, get in contact with our training team so we can discuss your options.

How do I book a place online if my organisation isn't required to pay UK VAT?

We know some of our international members are not subject to VAT. In order to process your booking, you'll need to contact us at training@imeche.org with your company registration number, VAT number and country for us to then organise payment excluding VAT.

Can I pay a small fee to lock in my place?

Unfortunately no. You can either provisionally hold a space at no cost, or pay upfront to secure your spot.

Can you offer me a better membership deal if I train with you?

No, currently this is not something we offer, as the membership provides significant discounts to training.

Can I save a place at the early bird discount and then pay later?

In rare cases where courses have several places still available this may be an option (at the training team’s discretion) for a limited time. However, paying candidates will take priority and may lead to you missing out.

When booking a 'Bring a Colleague for free' course, can I get the course for half the price rather than bring a colleague?

No. Our bring a colleague offer requires both delegates to attend the same course, on the same day in order to benefit from the offer.

Can I get a refund on a learning pass if I decide not to use all the credits?

No, our training passes are non-refundable. However they are valid for 6 months, and can be used by more than one delegate over this time, so there are plenty of opportunities to use the pass.

Other questions

What’s the difference between the Mentoring Skills course and the Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS)?

The main distinction is that the MPDS course focuses on IMechE’s expectations of a mentor (how to assess, use the system, key processes, standardisation etc.).

The mentoring skills programme focuses on the best practice skills of a mentor (giving feedback, mentoring/ coaching techniques, handling difficult conversations).

So in short, for many the MPDS course is the first priority (assuming he is mentoring a developing engineer through MPDS/ SRS).

Does the PRINCE2 foundation package include the examination itself?

Yes it does. This is included in the price listed on our website.

Is the Engineer360 free for members?

No. It is included in selected courses for free, however in most cases Engineer360 has its own separate cost of £150.

I thought something could have been discussed more thoroughly in a course I attended, can you add this in the future?

We are always looking to improve our courses to be more fulfilling and relevant for our members as the engineering industry changes over time. If you optimised the feedback form when attending a course, we will thoroughly consider anything you’ve suggested to help improve going forward. Otherwise, you can contact our training team at training@imeche.org who will be happy to take suggestions.
