IMechE has presented an Engineering Heritage Award to the Vickers Vimy G-EAOU, recognising its innovative design and historic flight from England to Australia. Designed in 1917 by Rex Pierson, the Vimy incorporated hollow spar longerons and steel reinforcements. These features contributed to the strength and reliability needed for long-distance flight.
