IMechE Council – Casual Vacancies (Fellow and Member)

Following the Elections on 23 May 2024 there are now four (two Fellows and two Members) member casual vacancies on the IMechE Council.

Filling a casual vacancy enables qualified candidates to volunteer for a shorter term than the normal election process. It is a great opportunity to fully contribute at the highest levels of the Institution while gaining experience to be used when pursuing future volunteer roles in the organisation. By volunteering with IMechE you can:

Enhance Your Professional Profile: Gain high-level governance experience that can bolster your career and open doors to future leadership roles within and outside the Institution.

Expand Your Network: Connect with influential leaders and peers in the engineering community, fostering relationships that can support your professional growth.

Make an Impact: Play a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of the Institution, ensuring your voice and perspective contribute to the future of the engineering profession.

The Council Terms of Reference state that those holding elected Council member status shall be elected from the Institution’s body of Corporate Members.

The person appointed shall hold office until the next Annual Meeting in May 2025. A period in office while filling a casual vacancy and prior to election to the office shall not count as part of an elected term of office.

The Council is particularly seeking applications from those who have some or all of the following:

  • A demonstrable ability to operate and contribute both individually and collectively at Board level.
  • Experience of high-level strategy implementation.

These skills may have been demonstrated through your involvement with a range of organisations (e.g., work, academic, charitable, professional bodies etc.).

It is anticipated that the roles of Fellow and Member Casual Vacancy will require a time commitment of an average of 2-3 days per month in addition to attendance at a minimum of four meetings of Council, including on the following dates:

  • 4 September 2024
  • 15 January 2025
  • 16 April 2025

Although most of the meetings are held virtually there are some in-person meetings.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all forms of diversity are seen as real value for our Institution. We actively encourage applications from underrepresented groups, including women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and those from different socio-economic backgrounds.

Adjustments: We want to ensure you perform at your best and experience no barriers in the selection process, for example when completing the application form. To discuss any adjustment requirements please contact diversity@imeche.org.
