After preparation of more than one year, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Student Chapter of INTI International University was launched on 2 September 2014.

Thirteen academicians from INTI International University joined the registered students to witness themselves this inaugural event of the launch of IMechE Student Chapter in INTI. With the help of INTI lecturer Mr. Amir, who is also the current Academic Liaison Officer (ALO) of INTI IMechE Student Chapter, the university managed to invite Ir. Mathew Thomas, Dr. Albert Tshai accompanied by Mr. Joel Bharath from IMechE Malaysia. Also Dr. Abd. Nassir Ibrahim from nuclear agency of Malaysia was invited to give a technical talk.
A warm welcome speech from the MC - Ali at 10.15am marked the beginning of the Student Chapter launching ceremony. While waiting for the students to register, the Mechanical Engineering staffs of INTI International University had a brief welcoming and networking session with the Chairman and members of IMechE Malaysia Branch.
Ir. Mathew Thomas, the chairman of IMechE Malaysia was invited onto the stage and he began his opening remarks by welcoming all the participants of the event.
Ir. Mathew then proceeded with his speech by introducing the main objective of IMechE, which is “improving the world through engineering”, to all the students and staffs. The IMechE Malaysia Chairman then proceed to explain more on the purpose and history of IMechE, before introducing IMechE Malaysia Branch to all the participants. The five principal themes of IMechE which are energy, environment, transport, manufacturing and education was presented to the participants before Ir. Mathew ended his speech by explaining on the benefits that can be enjoyed by IMechE members to all the students.
The ceremony continued with the speech by Dr. Albert Tshai, the Honorary Treasurer of IMechE Malaysia.
Dr. Albert started his talk by presenting the IMechE network across the globe and Malaysia to the staffs and students. He introduced IMechE Malaysia Young Members Section (YMS) and went on to explain about IMechE events and activities that are held throughout the year. At the end of his speech, Dr Albert has formally announced IMechE Student Chapter of INTI International University as the 9th official IMechE Student Chapter formed in Malaysia.
The launching ceremony proceeded with speech given by the Pro Vice Chancellor of INTI International University – Professor Dr. Saw Sor Heoh.
In her speech, Professor Dr. Saw has congratulated the ALO and all the committees of IMechE Student Chapter of INTI International University for their efforts in establishing the Student Chapter of the prestigious institution in the university. She then continued her speech by encouraging the students to organize or join more events as this will help to enhance their social skills which they may not be able to learn in classroom.
After Professor Dr. Saw ended her speech, the MC invited Ir. Mathew Thomas and Dr. Albert Tshai to officially launch the IMechE Student Chapter of INTI International University by handing over the certificate to Professor, Dr. Saw and passing the IMechE banner to INTI Student Chapter’s ALO, Mr. Amir and the President of the Student Chapter, Tan Zhi Zhong.
All the staff and committees of IMechE Malaysia were then invited onto the stage for a photo session. After the official launch of IMechE Student Chapter of INTI International University, Dr. Abd. Nassir Ibrahim, the Director of Nuclear Agency Malaysia, was invited to give a technical talk on Malaysian Qualification and Certification Scheme for None Destructive Test (NDT).
Dr. Abd. Nassir started his talk by introducing NDT to the students. During the talk, Dr. Abd. Nassir has shared his knowledge on the importance of NDT certification in Malaysia with the staffs and students. Dr. Abd. Nassir then further explained on the reasons for why NDT personnel are highly demanded in Malaysia. Before ending his speech, Dr Abd. Nassir explained on the area of applications of NDT in the industry.
When the technical talk has ended, Ir. Mathew was again invited onto the stage to give an ending speech to the launching ceremony. At the end of his speech, he advised the students to keep in touch with IMechE Malaysia through its events and activities.
After the session has ended, IMechE Malaysia committees was brought by the academic staffs of INTI International University to have their lunch and social networking session, while at the same time the students were provided with refreshment from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
