After extensive refurbishment in Summer 2019, the Institution is proud to announce that the new Library and Members’ Hub is now open.

With areas for collaborative working, meetings and private study set in a unique historic setting at the heart of Westminster, the hub provides members and visitors with a modern collaborative working space that also celebrates the 120th anniversary of One Birdcage Walk.

The project has enhanced the feel and features of the library space but has brought it up to date with the needs of modern Members. It offers increased study and work desks, with integrated power and USB chargers alongside a variety of seating options that offer a far more practical area for members to meet and work. And phone calls and food are now permitted. The all-new furniture, improved heating/cooling and increased plug-in desk availability ensures that the historic Library setting can remain a well-used space at the heart of the Institution’s London headquarters.

Complete with open spaced, comfortable, casual seating, the front section of the new space presents visitors with a chance to enjoy the architecture, enviable views over St James’ Park and prestige objects from the Institution’s Archive and Artefact collections. The west wing features increased deskspace, with free wireless printing, numerous charging points and four fixed-terminal PCs. On the east side, circular desks for collaborative work are available, with two large sofas offering semi-enclosed meeting space and free self-service tea, coffee and biscuits.

The space continues to house a dedicated enquiry team for research and offers access to resources in print and online. Extensive archives are available to view by appointment.
