Chris Chong graduated from the University of Hong Kong with Bachelor Degree of Mechanical Engineering in 1993 and Master Degree of Business Administration in 1999.
He is now the Managing Director of Hong Kong District Cooling Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Veolia, a French based international environmental company. Prior to joining Veolia in 2005, he worked for the CLP Group, the largest electricity company in Hong Kong for 12 years.
He has 29 years of solid experience in the energy sector ranging from plant engineering, asset management, financial management, business development, design, build and operate of various energy projects including district energy system/energy efficiency/data center/power plant projects in China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines. His team is currently managing few prestige energy projects including the largest district cooling system in the ex-Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong.
Chris is a Chartered Engineer and joined IMechE in 2011 as Fellow Member. He is currently serving as Branch Chairman of both the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (Hong Kong Branch) and Energy Institute (Hong Kong Branch). He started to serve IMechE Hong Kong Branch since 2012 as Macau Sub-committee Chairman, Honorary Secretary, Vice Chairman and Chairman. He focus on development of young mechanical/energy engineers through mentoring, sharing with successful CEO, industrial visits and trainings.
He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He is a member of various advisory groups including Working Group for the Review of the Air Quality Objectives 2030 by EPD of the HKSAR Government, Mandatory Implementation of the Building Energy Code (MBEC) Technical Taskforce & Working Groups of EMSD of the HKSAR Government, Retrocommissioning Registration Committee of the Hong Kong Green Building Council. He obtained Distinguished Sustainability Leader Award 2019 by the Hong Kong Management Association.
