Wherever possible the Institution hopes that its Professional Review Interviewers will attend a minimum of 2 days of interviews per year. You are given the option to select 2 ‘Preferred’ dates when giving your availability – you can only select two dates per year over all of the interview centres you have told us you are willing to attend.

Once you confirm your ‘Preferred’ dates you will not be able to change them through your online account.

You do not have to select any ‘Preferred’ dates but we will give preference to Interviewers who have selected ‘Preferred’ when selecting Interview panels.

The Institution has eight centres across the UK where we hold regular interviews. When you applied to become an Interviewer you would have told us which centres you wish to attend – you will have been assigned to the centre(s) closest to your home address.

You will see all of the interview centres you are assigned to when you log in to give us your availability.

Any date you can attend an Interview panel.

Please tell us all of the dates you can attend – if there are no ‘Preferred’ Interviewers available for the date you will be considered for the date.

You are able to update your ‘Available’ and ‘Not Available’ dates at any time unless you have been confirmed as part of the Interview panel for a date.

You will receive an email every three months to remind you to give us your availability, but you can access this at any time through your online member account. 

If new dates are added in any three month period, you will notified separately to log in and update your availability.

Once you have been booked into a date as a chair or co-panellist, these dates will be displayed on your ‘home page’ in the Interview Management area of your online member account and you will also be sent a confirmation email.

If you believe any of these details are incorrect, please contact the Membership Team as soon as possible.

Company based interviews (CBRs) will not be arranged and managed through your online member account.

If you have been contacted about a Company Based group of interviews, please ensure you reply to the email you were sent to give your availability.

If you wish to be included in our list of Interviewers who can be contacted at short notice, please contact membership.

Once you have attended two Professional Review Interview days, and in conjunction with the feedback from the Interview Facilitators, you can be considered for the role of chair. IMechE will provide chair training as needed and will advise you accordingly.

If you do not wish to be considered for the role of chair please email membership.

If you have completed training but have not yet carried out any interviews, you may wish to observe before you get started. If you would like to observe on any of the dates listed for your centre(s), please contact the membership team directly to arrange this.

While we will do our best to accommodate requests to observe interviews, please be aware that there can only be one observer per day and that the number of dates in some centres may be very limited.

When you attend your first day of interviews as a co-panellist, the Interview Facilitator and chair will be available to provide support throughout the day.

It is very important that you keep your Interviewer training up to date. We ask that our Interviewers attend face to face training every two years to be considered for a Professional Review Interview panel. To help you keep your training up to date we run workshops across the UK each year.

The Institution also provides online training modules which cover different aspects of the interview process to help you keep up to date with current practices. The modules can be accessed on our website.
