Dementia is an umbrella term for a range of progressive conditions that affect the brain. It does not just affect the person with the diagnosis – everyone around them will also feel its impact. Too many families are left to cope alone.
There are over 200 different types of dementia including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia and mixed dementia (a combination of one or more types).
Today, nearly one million people in the UK are living with dementia. One in 14 people over the age of 65 have dementia in the UK, but it also affects younger people, when it is known as young onset dementia.
We are working closely with Dementia UK and its specialist dementia nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, to provide expert advice and support on all aspects of dementia. Admiral Nurses are there for the whole family, supporting them with the many complex challenges of the condition and helping them have the best life possible, for as long as possible.
