Summary

Practical steps to help you make the successful transition into management.

Progressing towards your first line management role is both challenging and exciting, and the Aspiring Engineering Manager course is the first step in the Institution’s leadership development pathway.

Designed for those who are not yet managing a team, this one-day workshop focuses on the essential behaviours and attitudes of an effective manager such as assertive communication and personal responsibility, while also covering practical skills like time management and active listening.

The course explores the many aspects of personal effectiveness, including self-awareness, proactivity, accountability and good habits, and how these are exhibited in a strong leader. You will also gain a deeper understanding of how aligning your personal values with those of your organisation helps in developing a personal brand that fosters trust, connection and influence with your colleagues.

Throughout the day you’ll be encouraged to apply the learning to your own situation, and you’ll leave with a personalised action plan to implement in your workplace, equipping you with the mindset and tools for the next step in your career.

Coaching package add-on

You can choose to purchase a package of two 60-minute coaching sessions with this course, at a discounted price if purchased together, to help you accelerate your results.

The coaching sessions will run once a week following the course and provide you with a unique opportunity to discuss any issues you are facing with an experienced coach, who will guide your thinking, strategy and actions to ensure your learning experience has a direct impact on the bottom line.
