There is an irreversible trend towards increasingly electrified energy systems, where this electric power is generated from low-carbon, renewable sources. While wind and solar are nowadays often the cheapest ways to generate clean power, they lack the inherent flexibility to reliably match supply with demand.

Thus, as we build more of these sources of supply, there is an essential requirement to also deploy complementary technologies which can provide the flexibility and resilience a low-carbon energy system also requires.

A number of options are available with differing and often strongly held views on which make most sense.

This webinar provides a time-effective and independent overview of how three of these options - energy storage, clean hydrogen and conventional energy with captured carbon – stack up, and discusses whether they will compete or coexist.

Who should attend?

This will be an informative webinar for commercially-focused people with an interest in the evolution of low carbon energy systems, and the growth opportunities this provides. It is thus highly recommended for business developers, industry analysts, product strategists amongst others.

How will I benefit?

  • Understand why hydrogen, energy storage and carbon capture are growth sectors
  • Identify the factors which will drive or inhibit their scale of growth
  • Highlight where and why these sectors may overlap and interact
  • Understand their current states of commercial deployment

Key topics

  • The trend towards energy system ‘electrification’
  • Flexibility challenges in low-carbon power systems
  • The different timescales over which supply and demand must balance
  • Current and emerging flexibility solutions
  • Hydrogen as a source of energy storage and flexible demand
  • Why hydrogen will coexist, not compete, with battery storage
  • Carbon capture as an option for both clean hydrogen production and clean, flexible power
  • The market status and key deployment barriers in each case
