Academic Assessment Committee & Panel

The role of the Academic Assessment Committee (AAC) and panel is to maintain the standard of academic qualifications of individual applications for membership and registration as a Chartered Engineer or an Incorporated Engineer for applicants without fully accredited degree qualifications.

Both Committee and Panel are made up of approximately equal numbers of academic and industrial members. Committee and Panel members review and assess the academic portfolio of candidates who do not meet the exemplifying academic requirements (i.e. accredited degrees) and make recommendations as to the appropriate level of registration, or for other activities which could be undertaken (e.g. experiential learning, further learning etc.) to enable the applicant to meet the benchmark.

Requirements and training

Members must be either a Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated (IEng) Engineer. New members must complete GDPR training and sign the Data Protection Agreement.

An introductory training session will be conducted either virtually or at OBW (London). As part of the learning process, new members will be paired with experienced assessors when assessing cases. Due to limitations with committee size, applicants may be invited to join the Panel first.

You obtain a broader view of the engineering profession and transferrable approaches to development that you may otherwise not have experienced.

Panel members: may attend Committee meetings as observers, but otherwise volunteer remotely.
