IMechE Fellows Karen Holford and Lucy Rogers have been honoured for their exceptional contributions to engineering.

We are delighted to extend our heartfelt congratulations to IMechE Fellows Karen Holford and Lucy Rogers, who have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours 2024 for their outstanding services to engineering. Their dedication and contributions to the field have earned them this prestigious accolade, reflecting their commitment to innovation, excellence, and collaboration in engineering.

Karen Holford, who was awarded with Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, expressed her surprise and gratitude, saying, “I’m really humbled and completely surprised by this honour. Of course, it’s not really about me; it’s in recognition of all of the people and organisations I’ve worked with throughout my career.

The UK has an absolutely proud history of innovation and engineering excellence, and engineering is definitely a team sport. So, I’m grateful to all my engineering colleagues who are committed to making the world more sustainable, inclusive and resilient.”

Lucy Rogers, awarded with Member of the Order of the British Empire, also shared her appreciation for the recognition, stating, “I am deeply honoured to receive this award from His Majesty and immensely grateful for the acknowledgment of the work done by engineers. We need more engineers if we are to address the challenges we face. Engineers use their skills and expertise to solve problems and improve lives. We are creative, and when we collaborate, great things happen. I’d like to see engineers more widely recognised and celebrated as this will encourage more young people into engineering.

For me, engineering has been a wonderfully fulfilling and fun career. I’ve met and worked with fascinating people and had the opportunity to do exciting and interesting things. I’d like to thank all those who have supported and encouraged me.”

Both Karen and Lucy have exemplified the spirit of engineering through their remarkable careers, inspiring many with their passion and achievements. Their recognition in the King's Birthday Honours highlights the critical role engineers play in advancing society and tackling global challenges.

Once again, congratulations to Karen Holford and Lucy Rogers on this well-deserved honour. Your work continues to inspire and pave the way for future generations of engineers.
