Dr. Kieran Nar
Dr. Kieran Nar has emerged as an exceptional researcher in tribology with a passion for advancing knowledge and inspiring future engineers. After graduating with a first-class degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, he continued his studies and completed a PhD focusing on the ‘Surface Friction and Wear Properties of Polymer Laser Sintered Components’.
In addition to his academic achievements, Kieran has played an active role in supporting and mentoring students. He was instrumental in organising TriboUK 2023, a student-led conference, raising over £10,000 in sponsorships and ensuring the event remained accessible to all attendees. Kieran also contributes to the IMechE Tribology Group, where he has helped revitalize their newsletter and launch a webinar series on wear mechanics.
Currently working as an Applications Development Associate for PCS Instruments, Kieran's commitment to tribology continues to shape the field, and he is a deserving recipient of the 2024 Tribology Bronze Medal.

Robert Elkington
Robert Elkington, a PhD candidate at the University of Leeds, has made remarkable strides in biotribology, particularly in the development of biomimetic materials for cartilage repair. His research focuses on ‘polyelectrolyte-enhanced tribological rehydration’. Robert’s work aims to engineer soft-matter interfaces to improve joint replacement technologies, offering less invasive solutions for patients.
With numerous publications and accolades, including the IMechE DePuy Prize for Best Bioengineering Postgraduate Project and the STLE Booser Scholarship, Robert has established himself as an emerging leader in his field. He has also been instrumental in growing the digital presence of ‘BioTrib’, a biotribology blog, helping to foster a community of over 5,000 monthly visitors. In addition, his mentoring of younger students further underscores his dedication to the future of tribology.
As he approaches the completion of his PhD, Robert’s contributions to biotribology, including innovative cartilage repair materials, make him a highly deserving winner of the 2024 Tribology Bronze Medal.
