Register your school to take part in the Bloodhound SSC model rocket car competition, linking engineering with coding and inspiring the next generation.

The Bloodhound SSC  education team have launched the Micro:bit model rocket car competition where teams will design, build and race Micro:bit integrated rocket cars at a network of accredited Race HUBs across the UK. There is currently sponsorship for 11,000 teams nationwide to get involved in what is set to be the largest STEM competition run in schools in the UK.

How it works

Each model rocket car will have an integrated Micro:bit that will be coded to act as an accelerometer and then raced through timing gates with integrated Micro:bit technology.

The goal is simple – the fastest car through the timing gate, set at the 10 metre mark, with a functioning micro:bit able to gather acceleration data and upload it onto the leader board wins.

There will be two parallel competitions, one in Scotland and one in England and Wales. There is a Race Hub near every school in Scotland, England and Wales giving every student the opportunity to take part and become a Guinness World Record holder. Every Race HUB will not only host the race days, but also hold inspirational STEM talks, rocket car workshops and teacher CPD.

Register your school by 29 April 2016 for a sponsored model rocket car kit.
