Lara Mallett has been the Business Development Manager for the East Midlands Region since 2005, and is based in Cambridge. Lara supports and guides individuals and organisations about professional registration in the Eastern and East Midlands regions of the UK.  This includes working strategically with organisations ranging from large firms to SME’s, consultancies, academia including regional influential stakeholder bodies. Individual support includes apprentices, graduates, mentors extending up to Director and CEO level. Lara delivers a wide variety of interactive workshops, chairing and leading discussions as well as adapting depending on specific requirements.

In addition, Lara also provides strategic guidance to the active members in her regions via the Regional Committees, and is always keen to be involved in the launch of new products, or moving into new markets.

Lara has previously held roles at Mott MacDonald, Domino Printing Sciences, and a number of smaller engineering firms.  Lara is a French speaker, and in addition to the UK has lived in France, Australia and Hong Kong.

She has really missed visiting companies in her region during the lockdown and regards it as a great privilege to see amazing engineering achievements. She has been ‘wowed’ by the response of engineers to COVID - not just in the medical sector but across many other sectors. Lara sees her role as supporting the engineering community, especially during these challenging times where COVID has affected us in so many different ways.

She enjoys watching her son dance, and not long ago she sailed in a Bermudan Sloop across the Med in a Force 7 Gale (not intentionally).  She enjoys listening to BBC current affairs, science and technology podcasts, and of course Woman’s Hour.
