End Point Assessment Standards Committee Member

United Kingdom

The purpose of the End Point Assessment Standards Committee (EPASC) is to provide the IMechE with confidence that the Ofqual Conditions of Recognition for the qualifications we assess are being upheld.

End Point Assessment Standards Committee Member 800

This is achieved through committee members sampling assessors’ assessments, to ensure fairness and robustness in the assessment process. As the number of learners continues to increase, we are actively seeking dedicated volunteers to join our committee and contribute to the ongoing integrity of our assessments.

About you

Embrace the opportunity to make a significant impact by joining our committee! As a valued member, you'll bring essential qualities to the table, including professional registration with the IMechE and a commitment to upholding the Institution’s Values Behaviours and Code of Conduct. Your dedication to acting without vested interests and your willingness to declare any conflicts of interest or loyalty will ensure the integrity of our decisions. Your independent judgment will be instrumental in shaping our initiatives. With just four committee meetings per year, you'll have the chance to contribute regularly. Plus, your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will foster collaboration and drive progress. Seize this chance to be an integral part of shaping the future of engineering apprenticeships.

These skills may have been developed through your involvement with a range of organisations (e.g work, academic, charitable, professional bodies etc).

“Being a member of the EPASC provides me with the opportunity both to be actively engaged with the work of the Institution and support the maintenance of standards in the early part of the careers of technicians and engineers. It also keeps me in touch with the current processes and techniques being applied by today’s apprentices.”

Testimonial from Committee Member – Tim Winter

What you will do

Join us in ensuring the integrity of our assessment processes. As a committee member, you will play a crucial role in upholding the highest standards of assessment by:

  • Independently assess 15-25 assessments per year.
  • Proactively identify areas where our assessment procedures can be improved.
  • Assessing potential risks in our *End Point Assessment processes and developing effective strategies with your fellow committee members to address them.
  • Participate in insightful discussions and decision-making during our four committee meetings per year.
  • Rest assured; we will provide comprehensive training to support you in carrying out your responsibilities.

How you will benefit

Volunteering with the IMechE offers a multitude of benefits, ranging from personal growth to professional development. By engaging in volunteer work, individuals not only contribute to their own Continuing Professional Development (CPD) but also foster a sense of fulfilment by giving back to the profession. Working alongside other volunteers provides invaluable opportunities for collaboration, networking, and learning from diverse perspectives. Moreover, volunteering with the EPASC provides the opportunity to actively support the next generation of engineers.

How much time it will take

The End Point Assessment Standards Committee (EPASC) meets on average four times a year.

How it works

If you are interested in applying for a position on the Committee, please submit your CV and covering letter to: Claire Maycock, Associate Director - Recognition claire.maycock@imeche.org
