Events

The Aerospace Division Young Members Committee organise multiple events and actively participate in activities organised by the Aerospace Division.

UAS Challenge

The Aerospace Division Young Members Committee (AeDYMC) plays an active role in supporting the IMechE's UAS Challenge. This competition sees students from universities across the UK and beyond designing, building, and flying autonomous drones to complete simulations of humanitarian tasks, with the aim of developing engineering skills and fostering innovation in the aerospace industry.

Each year, the AeDYMC hosts a social night and quiz, offering an informal environment for participants to network and unwind after a day of competition. With free pizza and drinks, this social event has become a key part of the UAS Challenge, helping to create connections between young engineers and the aerospace community.

In addition to the social night, the AeDYMC runs a stall at the event, offering information about the committee’s activities, providing advice on career opportunities in aerospace, and recruiting future volunteers. This helps raise awareness of our work and provides support to participants throughout the challenge.

Looking ahead, the AeDYMC is working on plans to introduce live commentary during the competition, giving real-time insights and explanations for spectators. This will help bring the technical aspects of the competition to life and engage a broader audience.

AEROSPACE PARTNERSHIP

The Aerospace Division Young Members Committee (AeDYMC) is actively engaged in the Early Careers Aerospace Partnership, collaborating with organizations like the IET and RAeS to drive joint initiatives. Following the recent signing of the Terms of Reference at Farnborough, the partnership is focused on producing joint articles, including topics like the role of student competitions in upskilling engineers and the impact of sustainable technologies on early careers.

AeDYMC’s involvement will likely expand, with potential contributions from members on personal experiences in these areas.
