† Age on 1 January
An Engineering Council entry fee is payable if your application for registration with the Engineering Council is successful.
In subsequent years, your Engineering Council annual fee will be paid at the rate advertised for that year.
Engineering Council registration fees are paid in addition to your IMechE annual subscription.
Each year you will receive an IMechE subscriptions notice detailing both your Engineering Council registration fee, if applicable, and your IMechE annual subscription.
If you have a dual membership with another institution, you can continue to pay your EngC fees through them or you can transfer the payment to us.
We understand that as our members progress through their careers, there may be times when they may need more support to pay their membership fees.
If you are retired, a member on a lower income, or find yourself in altered financial circumstances we may be able to help.
You may also wish to consider paying your fees in instalments with Direct Debit. Use our secure online Direct Debit form to set this up in just a few clicks. It’s easy and convenient and ensures your payments are always on time. (Members with a UK bank account and UK address only).
To support refugee engineers recently arrived in the UK to feel part of, and gain employment in, the engineering community using their background in engineering, the IMechE has decided to waive membership application and subscription fees for up to two years for eligible potential members. Applicants who have official refugee status in the UK will have accompanying papers which will help us determine those eligible. Please email membership@imeche.org to receive information on qualifying criteria and an application form.
If you have retired from full-time paid employment (i.e. working less than 16 hours per week) and are over 55, you may be eligible for a reduced fee.
A further reduction may also be possible if your income, including your pension, is less than £11,500 a year.
If you find yourself in altered financial circumstances and on an income of £18,000 a year or less, you may be eligible for reduced fees. You may qualify if your lower income is due to any of the following reasons:
A voluntary career break, for example for travel or home renovation, would not normally meet the criteria for eligibility to receive a reduced fee, however, it may be considered in exceptional circumstances with supporting evidence.
If your reason for applying is not listed above, or your income exceeds the limits, your application will be referred to the Reduced Subscriptions Review Group for further consideration.
For international members who are employed and wish to apply for reduced subscriptions, you will need the signature of either your Managing Director, Finance Director, or HR Director to confirm your status. If you are unemployed, please indicate this on your application.
Professionally registered members (CEng, IEng and EngTech) who are eligible for reduced subscription fees also pay reduced Engineering Council fees.
Please contact us if you would like to apply or find out more. T: +44(0)1952 214 050 E: subscriptions@imeche.org All cases are reviewed on an individual basis; if your circumstances do not meet any of the above criteria please do contact us to discuss your options.

If you are an IEng or a CEng candidate, there is an annual fee of £35 paid each January, in addition to your membership fee. This fee will appear on your annual IMechE subscription invoice.
If you register in the second half of the current year and want to pay annually, your MPDS fee will be charged at a reduced rate before the £35 per annum rate is applied from 1 January, the following year.
If you are applying again within two years of an unsuccessful member or Fellow application, the fee is £41. Please note the application fee is non-refundable.
There is a fee of £40 for prospective members requiring an Academic Review. The fee does NOT apply to current members who are paying subscriptions to IMechE. If you would like to become a paying member at the time of applying for Academic Review, then the £40 application fee will be waived. As the Academic Review is the first step in completing your membership application, if you go on to apply for membership as an EngTech, IEng or CEng Member or Fellow within 1 year of undertaking the Academic Review, the £40 will be deducted from your professional registration application fee.
