Launch of new exclusive Institution professionals’ insurance scheme coincides with Aviva's withdrawal from SME professional indemnity insurance

After Aviva’s withdrawal from SME professional indemnity insurance, R K Harrison Insurance Services offers a new specialist professional indemnity scheme for Institution members.

After the recent announcement that Aviva, one of the UK’s largest insurers, has withdrawn from SME professional indemnity insurance, R K Harrison Insurance Services' new specialist professional indemnity scheme for members of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers is both timely and reassuring.

Aviva’s withdrawal from underwriting any clients with a turnover of less than £10 million is likely to leave many engineers – including members of the Institution - without cover and is likely to impact on members of the Association of Consulting Engineers, which has a long-running scheme underwritten by Aviva.

In devising a new professionals’ insurance scheme specifically for members, the Institution’s commercial insurance partner, R K Harrison Insurance Services has called upon the considerable experience and expertise of suitable commercial insurance companies.  The scheme is backed by an A-rated insurer, with competitive rates that R K Harrison and the Institution will monitor regularly to ensure the scheme continues to offer value for members.

Benefits of the scheme for Institution members include:

  • Preferential insurer rates if you are a member of the Institution or your business provides mechanical engineering services
  • Exclusive tailor-made Institution of Mechanical Engineers civil liability wording
  • Package policy that could include office contents, public and products, as well as employers liabilities insurance cover
  • Interest-free direct debit monthly instalments
  • Free legal helpline
  • Free collateral warranties helpline

Chris Allen Executive Director of R K Harrison Insurance Services commented: “If you are a member of the Institution, and you have concerns about or would like to discuss the implications of Aviva’s exit from the market on your own insurance arrangements, we recommend getting in touch with us.  Our specialists can offer expert guidance and advice on next steps, to ensure that you continue to have the cover you need for yourself or your business.”
