Institution News Team
The Institution is calling on photographers worldwide to focus their cameras on making "Engineering a Better World" and take part in our 2018 Photographer of the Year competition.
Whether you’re a member or non-member, amateur or professional, in your 20s or 50s, we’d like to invite you to share your striking images to help us raise awareness of mechanical engineering.
Entrants are invited to submit up to three photographs on this year’s theme by 30 September. The distinguished panel of judges will be on the lookout for photographs that are ambitious, creative, thoughtful and representative of our key themes.
Christian Young, Chair-Elect of the Young Members Board of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and one of the judges of the competition, said: “We’re excited to be launching this competition and are looking forward to seeing how entrants interpret this year’s Engineering a Better World theme. Participants may be inspired by some of the great engineering achievements of the past or perhaps look to new innovations. We hope engineers and non-engineers, adults and children will be inspired to take part.”
There is a £100 prize, a canvas of your winning photo and a certificate on offer for eight regional winners from each of the following regions: Americas, North East Asia, Southern Asia, South East Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Oceania and the UK & Ireland.
The Overall Winner will receive £150, feature in the member newsletters Institution News and World Bulletin and receive a contribution towards attending a regional dinner or Institution event. The runner up will receive £125. There is also an under 18s category, where the winner will receive £150 prize money, a canvas of their winning photograph and an instant camera.
