On 27 April 2024, the “IMechE Malaysia Student Chapters InnoExchange” was successfully conducted in Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).

The event is a collaborative event between two student chapters in Malaysia, namely IMechE UNITEN Student Chapter and IMechE USM Student Chapter.

The event was attended by over 59 students from five different student chapters including IMechE UM SC, IMechE UITM SC and IMechE Curtin SC.

The event brought together engineering students from various IMechE chapters to foster connections and meaningful interactions. It aimed to spark collaboration, encourage joint projects and initiatives that explore interdisciplinary possibilities across engineering fields.

The panel consisted of IMechE SEAR Chair Ir Dr Chua Yaw Long, IMechE Malaysia YM Section Chair Mr. Teow Hsien Loong, IMechE Malaysia YM Section Secretary Ms Khei Yinn Seow and IMechE Malaysia YM Section Committee Ir Dr Chong Kok Hing.

The event started with a panel discussion session where Mr. Chris Junior, the chair of IMechE USM student chapter, moderated the session. It was an informative session where the importance of learning from mistakes, tailored resumes for job applications, admitting mistakes to build trust, and achieving work-life balance were discussed extensively among the panellists.

The event moved on to an ice-breaking session which Mr. Kuberan Dorairam, chair of IMechE UNITEN hosted. The session involved a game taken from the STEM Challenge, where the groups have to construct a two-storey building from spaghetti. The main objective of this session was to break down the walls of the participants and encourage them to open up and discuss their ideas within their groups. Towards the end of the session, it was most definitely visible that this objective was reached, and everyone was able to promote teamwork among the participants in their groups.

The event continued with a collaboration workshop, where in the same groups, the participants were required to come with ideas from events that could be done in collaboration with the student chapters within the groups. The event garnered positive feedback from participants, praising the engaging atmosphere, interactive learning experience, and enjoyable activities.
