IMechE GIK Chapter, a student chapter of IMechE Pakistan Group initiated this conference in 2018 and has since been hosting the workshops online and in physical mode. The Workshop has the technical sponsorship of IMechE (UK) and IEEE (USA), and the financial sponsorship of the Directorate General of Science and Technology, Government of KP. The Functional Reverse Engineering of Machine Tools workshop aims to provide an interdisciplinary platform to researchers, scientists, practitioners, and academicians to conduct workshops in Functional Reverse Engineering. Functional Reverse Engineering is a concept whereby machinery and equipment have their system design performed and the object manufactured using available production facility based on an understanding of the functionality of the object. This year the workshop hosted over 300+ participants on campus, and 500+ online, from across Pakistan, and over 50 speakers from across the world.
IMechE GIK Chapter
IMechE GIK Chapter was initially founded in 2018, by a group of graduating students of the year 2018, under the supervision of Dr. Wasim Khan in Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute at Topi, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, province of Pakistan. The aim of this organisation is to conduct and organise several workshops and competitions for engineering students so they can strive for the improvement of the world through engineering. IMechE GIK Chapter has hosted various engineering related competitions and endeavours on national levels such as Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE), National Military and Defence Convention (NMDC), and Design Challenge ever since its advent.
Workshop On Reverse Engineering (WRE) Through the Years
The workshops on reverse engineering held in the years 2019 and 2020 included many national and international speakers currently part of prestigious institutions and facilities across the world. Owing to the pandemic, the workshop held in 2020 was a virtual one, yet included many renowned engineers as speakers. Some of the salient features of these were the deeper exploration of the machinery, equipment, and system design performed and the object manufactured using available production facilities based on an understanding of the functionality of the object. The object may have the same functionality or may have enhanced innovative and multidisciplinary features. Engineering Design Practices, Manufacturing Processes, and Systems for Discrete Products were also discussed in the speaker sessions. Feedback System Modelling and PCB Design and Fabrication were extensively explored. Microprocessors and Microcontrollers and their future trends, Human-Computer Interface / Man-Machine Interface, Industrial Ethernet, CAD/CAM, Virtual reality were also some of the many topics that were presented by the speakers.
