Please briefly explain your role, involvement and experience with regards to nuclear and nuclear new-build.
Jason Dreisbach (JD): I am Chief Engineer/Technical Director for our New Nuclear Technologies business in SNC-Lavalin/Atkins. I build our capabilities and help new clients develop new projects in UK and globally. I have been in the nuclear industry for 20 years, working mostly on large fission projects, including 10 years at the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and extensive time on Wylfa and Bradwell projects. More recently I have been involved with UK AEA STEP programme.
What is the top challenge facing the industry at present?
JD: Many projects, all competing for the same resources, both money and people.
How would you say the industry has evolved over the past two years?
JD: There has been much more talk and study about using nuclear energy in different ways, like making hydrogen and decarbonizing industry.
What will you be presenting at the Advanced Nuclear Reactor 2022 seminar and how will this benefit participants?
JD: My co-presenter (Rachel Glaving) and I will open the seminar describing the current landscape of advanced nuclear new build. We hope to get participants excited about what’s to come.
The Institution's Advanced Nuclear Reactor Design seminar will take place on 11 October 2022 in Manchester
This year’s event will focus on developments on these projects since the last event held in 2020 and will provide attendees with a detailed showcase of Advanced Modular Reactors and Small Modular Reactor development, government support and technical achievements to date.
