Institution news
Education is one of the policy priorities for the Institution, with even more importance given the disruption students suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our STEM Ambassador programme, which involves over 7,500 UK members, aims to equip members going into schools and colleges with the right skills to inspire and inform young people.
At the Elevating Education event we will be launching a new STEM Ambassador induction video and web resources.
Amanda Solloway MP, said:
“The pandemic has presented a wide range of pressures on the sector, but the importance of the STEM fields has never been so pronounced. From vital scientific breakthroughs to innovative engineering solutions to the problems we face, the work of our incredible researchers, scientists, and engineers continues to shine through. In such a dynamic environment, there is tremendous potential for inspiring future generations to follow in their footsteps.
Amanda Solloway MP will be joined by. Alice Bunn; IMechE Education & Skills Strategy Board Chair, Prof. Helen James OBE for a panel discussion on how engineers can best respond to the impact of COVID-19 on education. The discussion will be moderated by Jelena Gacesa IMechE’s Education, Outreach & Safeguarding Lead.
Alice Bunn, commented:
The Institution is committed to improving the world through engineering, and we know that many of society’s greatest challenges need engineering right now more than ever. It is more acute than ever to be focussing on pulling through the next generation of engineers in an inclusive, innovative and impactful way.
The event will be live streamed, please register here.
