Deal will see engineering firm design and supply the 299MWe unit of the baseload circulating fluidised-bed power plant
Amec Foster Wheeler has been awarded a contract to design and supply a circulating fluidised-bed steam generator for the Tees Renewable Energy Plant, in Teesside, for MGT Teesside.
Amec Foster Wheeler will design and supply the 299MWe unit of the baseload circulating fluidised-bed (CFB) power plant, including auxiliary equipment and onsite technical advisory services for construction and supervisory services for commissioning.
Once it reaches its full 299MWe capacity in 2020, the boiler will be the world's largest CFB boiler utilising only biomass as fuel.
The engineering company has also been awarded a long term service agreement contract for boiler maintenance.
Ben Elsworth, chief executive of MGT Power, said: “We are very pleased to have Amec Foster Wheeler in this project as the boiler plant supplier with their extensive experience of large scale biomass plants.”
The Tees REP will be fuelled by wood pellets and chips from certified sustainable forestry sources in the US and Europe, with regular audits to ensure compliance with strict sustainability criteria.
