The Annual General Meeting of IMechE Pakistan Group was held at the Pearl Continental Hotel, Karachi (Pakistan), on 6 June.

Organised by Mr. Raza Khan (Asst. Professor at NED University, Karachi), Mr. Gohar I. Shoukat (Young Members' Panel chair) and Ms. Namrah Khan (Young Members' Panel vice chair), it was attended by approximately sixty IMechE Members and volunteers from all over Pakistan, along with experienced engineers from Pakistan industry.

The meeting started with the recitation of Surah Al-Alaq (The Clot) from The Holy Quran (religious book of Islam), followed by a warm welcome address by the immediate past Chair of IMechE Pakistan Group, Dr. Muhammad Tufail.

The former Chair highlighted the vision of Pakistan Group, which is to decrease the gap between industry and academia, so that future engineers and researchers were able to focus on the issues faced by the industry. His address was followed by a Group presentation by Mr. Hassan Ghayasuddin Ansari, the former Treasurer of Pakistan Group. Mr. Ansari, after briefing the audience about the strategic objectives of the Group, discussed the exponential increase in the number of Members, benefits of IMechE membership and the efforts of the Group in engaging students and youth. Addressing the guests, Mr. Sikandar M. Khan, who is the Chairman of Millat Tractors Limited and the patron of IMechE Pakistan Group, observed that the Group required insightful people who shared their vision of improving the world through engineering.

The Chair of the Young Members Panel, Mr. Gohar I. Shoukat, described some of the highlights of the year, gave an impressive presentation. He highlighted the work of the Young Members Panel, and prompted the representatives of the industry to put their belief in the Group. His presentation was followed by the announcement of the election's results by Mr. Sarfaraz Ahmed (Eur-Ing), who acted as the independent election supervisor.

Two keynote speakers, Mr. Farrukh Khan (HUBCO) and Dr. Bilal Siddiqui (DHA Suffa University), were invited to share their knowledge on "Turbine Retrofitting" and "Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Launcher (UAVL)" respectively. These presentations were followed by a presentation by NUST Team Airworks, who shared their experience of victory in UAS Challenge 2019.

Later, Ms. Hajra I. Mirza, who is the runner-up of Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE) Pakistan 2019, presented on “Solution for the foreseeable crisis with drinking water”. Her commendable presentation skills were appreciated by all and sundry.

Later, Dr. Muhammad Tufail, Dr. Muhammad Uneeb, Mr. Hassan Ghayasuddin Ansari and Mr. Hassan Naziruddin Ansari presented  the meeting's speakers with awards. The returning chair, Dr. M. Tufail, concluded the ceremony by encouraging the guests from industry to put their faith in the young generation. His thought-provoking address was followed by an elaborate lunch for the guests, allowing them to network and socialise with each other.

At 1500 hours, the YM Panel meeting was held, followed by the 16th Executive Committee meeting, where crucial affairs regarding future activities of IMechE Pakistan were discussed.
