Applications open: join as a guest judge at the IMechE Apprentice Automation Challenge finals

Apprentice Automation Challenge Team

Join us and inspire the next generation of apprentice engineering talent.

The Challenge Committee is pleased to invite senior engineers in industry to become guest judges at the finals of this year’s Apprentice Automation Challenge, taking place on 29 September 2023 at the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry.

To put yourself forward, simply email the Challenge team with some details about your current role and experience and we will be in touch.

Taking place annually and organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Apprentice Automation Challenge tasks teams of apprentices at companies around the world to design and manufacture a prototype of a product that solves a common problem in the home or garden. Teams submit a report covering the design specification, manufacturing instructions, user manual and a business case for the mass production and sale of the product.

This is your chance to be a part of the finals event that helps develop the skills and experience of new apprentice engineers. Guest judges will meet the next generation of apprentice talent, help assess their products, presentations and reports and provide constructive feedback to establish the winning entries this year.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided and guest judges will be paired with existing judges to ensure ease of judging.

Enjoy a day out of the office at a busy event and get the opportunity to meet and network with entrants, their companies and the committee of senior engineers working across multiple industries. If your organisation already employs apprentices, this is a great opportunity to find out more about the Challenge ahead of the 2024 Challenge when registration opens later this year.

We look forward to receiving your application and discussing in further detail!
