The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) is proud to launch the 2024 Prestige Awards with the goal of acknowledging exceptional talent whilst also promoting diversity and inclusion within the field.
Among the various awards offered, the Verena Winifred Holmes Award stands out as a symbol of empowerment and resilience for diversity in engineering. Notably, Holmes championed the cause of women engineers – she was one of the founding members of the Women’s Engineering Society and served as its President in 1930 and 1931. She played a pivotal role in advocating for women’s training and employment opportunities in engineering.
The Verena Holmes Award offers the successful candidate an award of £1000 plus certificate, and an invite to a celebration of their success later in the year. Candidates for this award should demonstrate that they 'value difference'. Showing they recognise that innovation is stimulated by embracing diversity, by listening to and respecting the perspective of others, and by constructive engagement and dialogue.
