CBSD Prizegiving and Lecture 2024: Steel Framed Building Safety

Institution News Team

Join us at One Birdcage Walk on the evening of the 27th November for the Institution’s Construction and Building Services Prizegiving and Lecture.

The evening is free and open to all; register your place on the event website.

The lecture will be given by the 2023 CBSD Prize winner Bill Boggia. Titled ‘Steel Framed Building Safety – Preventing Progressive Collapse in Historic Buildings’, Bill’s lecture will present modelling and analysis carried out on a number of steel frame connection variants. He will explore how this can be used to understand structural failures that could progress to total collapse and how design improvements and building remediation could prevent such failures in the future.

Following his talk, Bill will be joined by CBSD Steel-Framed Building Safety TAC Lead David Llewelyn and Nada Elkady of Renaissance Associates for a question-and-answer panel discussion. The evening will conclude with a networking drinks reception – the entire event is free and open to all.

The IMechE warmly invites all engineers and professionals to join us and celebrate the successes of their colleagues across the Construction sector.
