A team of engineering students from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands emerged as the overall winner of the Formula Student competition at Silverstone racetrack in July.

The 60-strong team claimed first prize for the second year running with a score of 909.3 out of a possible total of 1,000 points. Germany’s Zwickau University of Applied Sciences claimed second place with 792.5 points, and the University of Stuttgart came third with 750.8.

The University of Bath was the top UK team, coming fourth with 748.4 points.

Professor Richard Folkson, IMechE president and former chief judge of Formula Student, said: “The calibre of the engineering on display this year was exceptional and Team Delft were very worthy winners. Their car was agile, quick and had some impressive innovations from last year’s car, including the side wings.”

Formula Student attracted 135 teams from universities around the world, including countries such as Australia, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan and India.
