Ifeanyichukwu U. Onyenanu AMIMechE has a BEng. in Mechanical Engineering and is currently a Master’s Degree student of Anambra State University, Nigeria. A vibrant young member of IMechE, who is devoted in Technology advancement in Africa and beyond, he is the founder/ leader, of NUTA_BOLTS Team that is involved in  technology fused activities which provides them the opportunities to develop research and innovation.

Ifeanyi served as the Project and Research Director of IMechE – Nigeria YM Section and is currently the Young Members Representative for IMechE – Nigeria. He led the first Nigerian team that participated in the IMechE - Formula Student Competition and also won the first ever organised IMechE, Global Population Challenge Competition.

Why did you join the Institution of Mechanical Engineers?
I was encouraged to join the Institution first, by a friend (Ms Ijeoma Ezeonuegbu) during my second year in Anambra State University, Nigeria. My passion for research and innovation was the major factor that influenced my joining the institution then.
Again, I wanted to stay in the engineering profession and being professionally registered was important to me and my career.

Where has membership of the Institution taken you?
In terms of career development, my membership with the institution had exposed me to local and international competitions and events. As I have won the first ever organized Global population Challenge by IMechE, became the leader of the first Nigerian team to participate in the Formula Student Competition, boosted my morale by making me believe in myself. This to mention but few.

How has membership of the Institution and professional registration helped your career?
It has helped me gain the respect of my peers and to become a role model for other graduates here in Nigeria. It has also proved useful in providing me opportunities to network with other professionals and has helped me in progressing through my career.
I would recommend membership of the Institution and professional registration to other engineers because my membership with the institution has gone a long way affecting me positively. Now, I am proud to be an engineer.
