Engineer vs ingenieur

PE

Even using "Chartered Engineer" does not rid us of the general association with engineer

Why doesn't the EC carry out an institutions-wide survey to test the reaction of qualified engineers to the possible change in the use of the unappreciated title "engineer" to the European-wide "ingenieur"?

Major advantages are:

  • It would attract young pupils/students to aim for a well defined professional qualification.
  • ingenieur is phonetically different when pronounced in- gen- yer (as in Germany).
  • Should be relatively easy to obtain legal protection.
Even using "Chartered Engineer" does not rid us of the general association with engineer.
