IMechE Sri Lanka Group organised a competition to test the design strengths of the Young Members fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
The competition was designed and organised by the Young Members’ Representative, Dr J.R. Gamage, with the support and guidance of the IMechE Sri Lanka Group. Candidates were requested to submit a 3D model of their designs with a brief report of the project. Fourteen groups, comprising of three members maximum, were shortlisted for the final evaluation. A panel of judges representing the engineering higher education, industry, and healthcare sectors evaluated the designs. The final evaluation was held on 29 May 2020 via the ZOOM online platform.
The first, second, and third places were given cash awards of Rs. 50,000/-, 30,000/- and 15,000/- respectively, and all members of the first 10 groups were given certificates. The cash award winners were required to use the prize money in making prototypes of the designs.
