Willem Toet is to return to Formula Student 2016 – which will bring together teams from more countries than ever before – as a speaker and guest judge.

Formula Student Ambassador Willem Toet will once again take his place at Silverstone as a speaker and guest judge at this year's competition in July. Having worked in F1 with Benetton, BAR/Honda and Sauber, Willem is an asset to this year's line-up of ambassadors.

Willem said: “I think the concept of Formula Student is brilliant as it creates a full but compressed motorsport engineering and business experience for the students. All have to face the realities of financial and resource limits with extreme time pressure and make difficult choices from the beginning of the project to the end.

“Students also need to get their hands dirty and learn about the practicalities of building and running a car. I really enjoy seeing the many different ways of optimising a solution to a complex problem – there is always something surprising and positive to see."

Teams get competition-ready

This year's competition will see teams from Ecuador and Sri Lanka compete for the first time. See the full team list.

The participants will learn important lessons on team working, time management, project management, budgeting and presentation: all things that any prospective employer will be looking for.

Matt Chapman, Team Leader of Formula Student Portsmouth, UPRacing, said: “We enter Formula Student to get as much out of our university experience as possible, and prepare ourselves to stand out from the competition in graduate job hunts. Most importantly it allows us to connect with other students who share similar hobbies and interests.

“I've met some really special people on our journey to Silverstone. The road itself is ever changing and as long as you prepare for a few pot-holes on the way you are in good stead to be competitive and most importantly have an amazing time.”

Day and weekend passes are available for members and non-members of the Institution, and all passes provide pit lane and garage access. Book now.

More teams in 2016

This year’s competition will see more than 150 teams from 32 countries – more than ever before – come together on 14-17 July 2016 at Silverstone. Team Delft (Delft University of Technology) from the Netherlands won the competition in 2015 for the second year in a row, and will be looking to continue their sensational run by executing a hat-trick in 2016.

Formula Student 2016 will test the mettle of both petrol and electric engines. With a record number of electric cars set to compete at Formula Student 2016, this is a fantastic opportunity to compare the different fuel technologies and how teams have incorporated them into their vehicles.
