Alexandra Knight from engineering consultancy Frazer-Nash has won the prestigious First Woman of Manufacturing and Engineering Award.

Knight's success came at the 2011 First Women Awards, created by enterprise magazine Real Business and the CBI, and held in association with Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets. The First Women Awards honour women whose achievements open up opportunities for others.

Knight was recognised for her efforts in supporting and training schoolchildren who are looking to embark on a career in engineering. Her work at Frazer-Nash has seen her develop mobility equipment and exercise bikes to support the rehabilitation of injured service personnel, as well as leading on a number of technical projects from submarine integrity analysis to children’s wheelchair designs.

The First Woman of Manufacturing and Engineering Award was sponsored by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and was presented by chief executive Stephen Tetlow and best-selling cookery author Annabel Karmel.
