FS2022: LTS Quick Start Guide

Formula Student Team

Here's a quick update on how to get stuck into the LTS event

  1. Familiarise yourself with the competition ruleset
  2. Register your team for the IPG Automotive Formula CarMaker Program
  3. Request your 2 free CarMaker licences
  4. Access the customer area to download CarMaker using the log in details you received by email from IPG Automotive when you registered for Formula CarMaker licences.
  5. Download Formula CarMaker Package
  6. Open the package and load the FCM_Projects/FS_LTS folder in CarMaker 10.2.1; this is where you'll find all the test runs for the competition
  7. Now it's time to create your winning vehicle; to do that start by creating an IPG Webtools account
  8. In VPM build a vehicle and download it
  9. Unzip your vehicle and copy the contents of the VehicleFiles into your CarMaker project
  10. You are now ready to start developing and runnning your vehicle!
  11. As you identify new optimal setups using CarMaker- Upload the new data parameters (eg spring stiffness) to your team's NGD (Non Geometric Data - an online database where all virtual vehicle data can be stored and easily viewed by each team member)
  12. Easily Build new vehicles with the data uploaded in NGD using VPM (Virtual Prototype Manager - your virtual vehicle garage where you can build and store as many vehicle versions and variations as you like)
  13. Review the first Q&A webinar for the Lap Time Simulation event.

For detailed instructions please refer to the left tab within the NGD Management (NGD) & Virtual Prototype Manager (VPM):

    • ‘Documentation’ (NGD & VPM explanation)
    • ‘LTS Documentation’ (Lap Time Simulation Competition Instructions)
    • ‘Submission Guidelines’ (How to submit your final vehicle)
