GKN Automotive to sponsor three electric teams at Formula Student 2019

Formula Student Team

GKN Automotive is pleased to work with three electric teams for the 2019 and 2020 Formula Student season.

Following the review of over a dozen applications from teams competing this year, GKN Automotive is pleased to announce that they have finalised their sponsorship for three teams entering electric vehicles in the UK competition: Oxford Brookes Racing Electric, Team Bath Racing Electric and UoN Racing.

GKN Automotive will offer the three teams the opportunity to optimise their electric powertrains ahead of the Formula Student competition, together with technical support and full test days at HORIBA MIRA.

Deepak Selvan, EV Chief Engineer, Oxford Brookes Racing Electric:

“We are proud to announce our technical partnership with the GKN Innovation Centre. GKN’s expertise and knowledge around e-Powertrains along with their state of the art e-Dyno test center will help OBR in our electric transformation.”

Afkar Ansar, Business Manager, Team Bath Racing Electric:

University of Bath - Team Bath Racing Electric“We are immensely grateful for the sponsorship opportunity with GKN, the leader in electrification technology. We are looking forward to maximising our potential with GKN’s assistance and the opportunity to test our designs at the GKN specialist e-Powertrain and e-Dyno test centre. We hope this is just the beginning of a successful partnership and brings great synergy for both parties.”

Surojit Sen, PhD student (Electrical and Electronics Engineering), UoN Racing:

University of Nottingham - University of Nottingham Racing"We are in cloud 9! This development has brought more confidence to us that our decision two-years ago to go all custom, independently torque-vectored 4WD electric racer, was (although perilous, but) the correct one. Being a rookie team it’s a massive boost to the team’s self-confidence to have been picked-up along with the two most successful UK teams and we look forward to building a competitive-yet-friendly trust with them. And of course, major congratulations to TBRe and OBR!"

GKN Automotive would like to thank all teams for their interest and they look forward to meeting everyone at their stand at Silverstone this July.
