Institution news
If you would like to receive the latest information on the activities, news and member benefits from the Institution, keeping your contact details up to date on My Account is important. This is particularly important if you have moved address, region or country as the information you will continue receiving will only be relevant to your old location. Worse still, you may be missing out on information which is most relevant to you now.
For example, if you are now living in Australia but your membership record shows you still being based in the UK, you will not receive:
- World Bulletin: the Institution’s international newsletter
- Local Newsletters: such as the Australia News Bulletin, which gives some great information on the activities and events you can get involved in with the Australia Branch.
- Governance-related information: which as a member you are eligible to vote in and influence. For example, if you are showing as still based in the UK, you may not be aware of the Australia Branch’s Annual General Meeting, during which key officers are elected to represent you.
Whilst the above examples relate to Australia only, this is an example which is relevant the world over in the 140 countries in which the Institution is represented.
Furthermore we will soon be posting your 2017 membership pack out to you. In order to ensure that you receive the pack and your membership card, please ensure you update your contact details online, particularly, if they have changed in the last 12 months.
Updating your personal details is easy; just go to your profile on MyAccount and make the relevant changes within minutes.
Did you know you could also update your mailing preferences in MyAccount too? Why not update these at the same time as your personal details to make sure the information you receive from your Institution is as tailored as possible to what you want to hear about, in the format you want- be it by post or by email.

You will note that ‘News and IMechE updates’ are separate from the ‘Updates from member networks near you’. By separating these two types of updates you can receive truly customised information for you- either from the Institution headquarters or your local volunteer network, or both- the choice is yours.
If you look at your mailing preferences and wonder why they are as indicated, this is because these are the selections you made when we asked you for your mailing preference at the time of creating your membership account. Nevertheless, you can go change your mailing preferences any time on MyAccount.
