Institution news
Formula Student and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers are committed to the aims of Racing Pride: to promote greater inclusiveness and provide everyone an equal opportunity to participate at all levels within motorsport, regardless of their background.
Racing Pride has developed some straightforward guidance to inform and foster greater equality, acceptance and mutual respect: download the PDF from the Racing Pride website.
Launched two years ago in June 2019, Racing Pride was founded to bring about significant and lasting change for LGBTQ+ people across motorsport. With a team of well-known driver ambassadors like Abbie Eaton, Richard Morris, Sarah Moore and Charlie Martin, together with prominent engineers and those in a range of technical and non-technical roles throughout the sport, Racing Pride provides positive role models, guidance and support.
Additionally, Racing Pride have just announced a partnership with Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team. Throughout June, Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team will publish a series of content pieces
highlighting the strength of the LGBTQ+ community within motorsport; and feature Racing Pride logos
on the bodywork of the team’s 2021 challenger, the AMR21, at the French Grand Prix.
“Motorsport has only ever asked that people give their best, whether they’re drivers, engineers, mechanics or organisers. If people from the LGBTQ+ community in motorsport feel it’s a difficult place for them to do that, it’s incumbent upon all of us to change those conditions. That’s why I’m supporting Racing Pride,” said Damon Hill, Formula One World Champion 1996, on the launch of Racing Pride.
