Bespoke solution

Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) is opening its specialised hydraulic testing services to third-party customers for the first time.

Developed specifically for Formula 1, TMG says its hydraulic facilities are adaptable to most motorsport and advanced automotive applications and offer bespoke testing solutions covering everything from individual valves to the full hydraulic system.

“We have some very advanced systems for hydraulic development and optimisation,” says Jens Marquardt, general manager business development at TMG. “The hydraulics facility was previously available exclusively to our Formula 1 team and this new service from TMG represents an opportunity for external parties to take advantage of our knowledge and hardware.”

Static and dynamic testing of valves for reliability or functionality is complemented by automatic data analysis and evaluation on the servo valve test rig. The hydraulic pump test rig has an electric motor drive with computer-controlled speed, as well as the capability to handle up to 250 bar of pressure and 10,000rpm. Specialised power steering rigs put full systems through suspension, turning and driving torque simulations for hydraulic power steering and linear spool valve set-up and optimisation.

Full hydraulic systems can be put through reliability and performance testing on a dedicated test bench, which features a dummy gearbox for gearshift actuator analysis, up to 180°C conditioned oil, an electro motor-driven hydraulic pump with 10,000rpm capability and control of six servo valves.

In addition, motorsport-specific applications have been developed to provide reliable bespoke system checks and data evaluation software based only on commonly available car data.
