The agreement formalises a collaborative partnership with the aim of helping each other in promoting and upskilling the mechanical engineering profession.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed virtually on 1 September using Zoom, a first for IMechE’s South East Asia Group, and was also telecast live on Facebook.
“With this MOU, we hope to expand the presence and brand of IMechE in a new ASEAN partner country and explore different approaches to share knowledge and activities,” said Prof Ir Ts Dr Vinesh, Chair of the South East Asia Region, who signed on behalf of IMechE.
The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) was founded in 1952 for the purpose of bringing mechanical engineers together and encouraging and continuing professional growth. PSME was established to serve the Filipino mechanical engineers of various grades, to advance the Mechanical Engineering profession, and provide sustainability to a changing world.
PSME has a total of 87 chapters, of which 76 chapters are based in the Philippines and 11 chapters are International, majority of which are in the Middle East. PSME also has Junior units composed of mechanical engineering students in about 76 schools. PSME aims to serve the estimated 65,000 Filipino mechanical engineers.

IMechE was represented by Prof Dr Ir Vinesh (SEAR Chair), Ir Chua Yaw Long (IYMC Vice Chair), Ir Eddie Lim (IMechE Malaysia Branch Chair), Cheah Kean Wee (IMechE Singapore Branch Chair and Zen (SEA Business Development Manager).
Some of the attendees representing PSME were Jeffrey F. Singson (National President), Simeon Perez (Vice President External Affairs), Carlito E. Alpay (Vice President Luzon) and Jerry D. Asuncion (National Convention Chair).
The MOU was signed by Prof Dr Ir Vinesh and Chua for IMechE and Jeffrey and Simeon for PSME.
