Institution news
The Women’s Engineering Society celebrates the Top 50 Women in Engineering on 23 June each year. The theme for 2022 is ‘Inventors and Innovators who can Imagine the Future.’ The six inspirational IMechE members, alongside the other winners, have either identified an unmet need and then created the solution, or improved on existing products and processes to make our lives easier.
Dr Alice Bunn, Chief Executive of the Institution, says
“We are delighted to congratulate all the winners of the Top 50 Women in Engineering Awards, especially the six who are IMechE members. It is vital that we continue to advocate for more women in the industry, and awards like these are an incredible way of recognising those who are paving the way.
Two of IMechE’s values are to make an impact and to be innovative, which fit really well with the theme for WE50 this year, which is “Inventors and Innovators.” Today’s winners have shown their initiative and leadership skills, and we are thrilled to have them represent the Institution.”
Join us in congratulating the following:
Dr Nausheen Sultana Mehboob Basha, Project Manager – Fluids Engineering at Imperial College London
"Dr Nausheen Basha, Chartered Engineer with IMechE, has won the prestigious Ted Perry award by The Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) for her previous research on computational modelling of compressors, and her previous project on CFD modelling of oil separators has achieved an outstanding grade from Innovate UK. She is keen on advancing computational approaches in traditional, and complex engineering problems and passionate about getting more young women interested in STEM.”
Dr Ama Frimpong, Head of Product Development at 52 North Health
"Dr Ama Frimpong is a multidisciplinary engineer with a career focussed on health and medical technologies. She currently leads the development of medical and AI based solutions for people living with cancer and has a passion for encouraging and supporting women and ethnic minorities into STEM subjects.”
Jennifer Glover, Graduate Acoustic Consultant at AECOM
"Jennifer is a Engineering Technician of the IMechE, and Acoustic Consultant helping major infrastructure to understand their noise environment and how to reduce its impact on the community. After achieving a MEng in Aeronautical Engineering, she secured a Studentship PhD researching jet engine noise cancellation through metamaterial acoustic liners and will graduate this July.”
Alice Kan, Pharmaceutical Director, Kan Do Ventures
"Alice is a Fellow of the IMechE and has spent her career in pharmaceutical manufacturing. This experience came in useful at the start of the pandemic, as she led the set-up of the fill-finish manufacture of the Oxford- AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine. She focussed on a collaborative and ‘Kan do’ approach to deliver full scale manufacture in 5 months, finding the possibilities and removing the blockers.”
Guneet Kohli, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Climate Change Projection Specialist at Arup
"Guneet is a Chartered Engineer specialising in both fluid dynamics and climate change resilience at Arup. She is an expert in using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in a range of applications such as buildings, hydraulic design and datacentres. Guneet is passionate about sustainable design, and helps projects across Arup understand and use climate change projection data to ensure future resilience.”
Marisa Kurimbokus, Mechanical Engineering Team Leader at Aeristech
"Marisa is the Mechanical Engineering Team Leader at Aeristech, focusing on sustainability through design of electric air compressor technology, primarily for hydrogen fuel cells. She is a Chartered engineer and a Fellow of the Women’s Engineering Society. She is a keen advocate of engineering, diversity and STEM, and in 2020, was awarded “IMechE Young Engineer of the Year – Volunteer of the Year”.”
