On 9 December 2022, The Institution of Mechanical Engineers hosted the 2022 Whitworth and Scholarship awards at One Birdcage Walk. The awards that were up for grabs were; Undergraduate and Postgraduate awards, Apprentice and EngTech awards, and the Whitworth scholarship awards.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Awards
The Institution invests in the future of developing engineers and to help us achieve this, we offer out Undergraduate and Postgraduate awards which gives beginning engineers a helping hand.
One of the Undergraduate Awards was the Land Rover Spen King Sustainability Award where the successful award holder, chosen by the Institution’s Selection Committee, will be offered a placement with Jaguar Land Rover. Congratulations to Dylan Halse, from University of Plymouth.
The First Year Undergraduate Scholarship is available to students who are currently registered on the first year of their Institution-accredited degree. The scholarship can be worth up to £9,000 for three years of a MEng degree-level course, and £6,000 for two years of a BEng degree-level course.
The winners of the Undergraduate Scholarship Award were:

The winners of the First Year Undergraduate Scholarship were:

As well as the Undergraduate Scholarships, we also handed out the Postgraduate Scholarships. This award is offered to exceptional graduates with an IMechE accredited BEng (Hons) degree to allow them to undertake an IMechE accredited Masters degree for the purpose of obtaining the academic requirements for professional registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Apprentice and EngTech Awards
The evening then moved onto the Apprentice and EngTech Awards, starting with the Bryan Hildrew Apprentice of the Year Award; awarded to an apprentice who can demonstrate outstanding commitment to their continuing development whilst also making a positive difference to their employer and the wider community.
This year, we had 2 joint runner-ups and a winner due to the high standard of nominations received. Congratulations to runner ups Rachel Gleaves and Amit Parmer.
Awarded the Bryan Hildrew Apprentice of the Year Award for their outstanding commitment to their continuing development, whilst also making a positive difference to their employer and the wider community, was Ross Pringle.
The EngTech of the Year Award recognises EngTech achievements and the contribution they make to the engineering sector, industry, and the wider economy. Congratulations to Tenielle Walmsley for winning the award.
Whitworth Scholarship Awards
This year was the 39th Whitworth Awards Ceremony where we celebrated the achievements of the 2022 Whitworth Award Holders, Whitworth Senior Award Holders and Whitworth Scholars.
