Institution News Team
After almost three years without face-to-face events the IMechE was proud to host an industry contacts event with several key contacts from employers and academia, which took place on 22 November 2022 at Triumph Motorcycles in Leicestershire.
The event was organised by Farah Baksh and Lara Mallett (Business Development Managers) who said, “It was great to see such fantastic interaction and an exchange of ideas from all those that attended.”
There were a range of subjects covered from IMechE strategy, end point assessment, the amount of IMechE involvement as well as our offering in Learning & Development. Also included was how the IMechE and the local Business Development team can support technical communities spanning from Affiliate, Eng. Tech, IENG, CENG throughout the workforce and their changing technical needs. There was also an enlightening discussion on communications/engagement and what it means to the different generations.
“The forum is always a useful, educational and productive event” said Marisa Kurimbokus, Mechanical Engineering Team Leader at Aeristech, “Being informed of the latest processes and news helps me better guide the engineers in our company. I also love the networking and discussions; knowing we can make our voice heard directly to the Institution is very empowering as members.
Apprentices from Leonardo demonstrated their winning entry for the IMechE Apprentice Challenge. Abby Verney, Technical Apprentice from Leonardo said, “Promoting the Apprentice Automation Challenge was a proud moment and hopefully will encourage more to get involved. Having these opportunities adds value to the work you do and makes it all worthwhile.”
And finally, a big thank you to our hosts Triumph Motorcycles “It was a pleasure to welcome the IMechE to our Visitors’ Centre and host such an engaged debate around the IMechE,” stated Geoff Hurst, Chief Design Officer. We hope to organise a similar event soon in the Southern regions of the UK.
