IMechE Malaysia Establishes Collaborative Relationship with IET Malaysia, and Local Networks of UK Based Professional Bodies

On the 28th of July 2021, The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Malaysia Branch and The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Malaysia Network met via a virtual meeting to discuss on how the UK Professional Engineering Institutions in Malaysia can collaborate together to provide better benefit to members.

The meeting was organized by Mr. Zen Teng, the IMechE South East Asia (SEA) Business Development Manager, as subsequent effort to the attendance of the representatives from both institutions in a recent webinar, hosted by British High Commission Malaysia, titled “Challenges & Opportunities in a Covid-19 World”.

IMechE Malaysia Branch was represented by:

• Ir. Chow Chee Choy (Chairman)
• Ir. Eddie Lim (Immediate Past Chairman)
• Ir. Dr. Lau Ee Von (Honorary Secretary)
• Ir. Gerald Victor (Honorary Treasurer)
• Prof. Ir. Dr. Ong Kok Seng (Past Chairman, Committee Member)
• Ir. Dr. Aidil Chee Tahir (Committee Member)

IET Malaysia Network was represented by:

• Ir. Amir Farid Abdul Majid (Chairman)
• Ir. Dr. David Chuah (Vice Chairman)
• Ts. Indiran Nadarajan (Honorary Treasurer)

During this first effort of fostering the relationship and close communication between the Malaysia branches of the two institutions, some common understandings have been established as below:

• Working together to showcase the value of being Chartered in Malaysia
• Joint partnership in representing the institutions in presenting / setting up policies and engagement with relevant local government / regulatory bodies or organizations.
• Cross - sharing and promoting of each institution’s events/webinars/activities
• Expanding further discussion and cooperation with other UK based professional bodies in Malaysia and South East Asia.
