IMechE North India Panel conference: "EPC industry: Challenges, Modularization and Emerging Trends"

IMechE India, North Panel Division organised an International technical conference on “EPC Industry: Challenges, Modularization and Emerging Trends” on 6 Oct 2018, in Gurgaon. On the programme were presentations by engineering procurement and construction (EPC) professionals from various EPC companies, Fluor, CB & I and other industry people on engineering design challenges in EPC projects.

The event began with a welcome address by Mr. Pranjal and Mr. Avadhesh Bahadur (Treasurer, IMechE India). This was followed by an introduction to the guests: Mr. Shailendra Tripathi, Chairman, IMechE India, Mr. Ravi Kochak, SAR, Vice- Chair, IMechE India, Mr. Allwyn Peter, Country Advisor, North India.

Mr CG Shastry, Senior Project Director, Fluor Daniel India Private Limited opened the conference and joined technical sessions as a keynote with esteemed guests –

  • Debashis Gupta, Asst Vice President, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL),
  • Arvind Kumar, Chief General Manager (Projects), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL)
  • P.K Mandal, Chief Engineering Services Manager, IOCLand
  • Rakesh Yadav, Senior Project Manager, Mathura Refinery, IOCL

Senior Fellow, Technical Director & Supervisor of the Materials & Welding Engineering group at Fluor Enterprises in Aliso Viejo, California, USA, Cathleen Shargay delivered a lecture -  "Latest from NACE and API standards on Materials and Corrosion".

Mr. Shastri provided the overview about modularisation, which is important for the remote locations, adverse weather conditions and tight project schedule. During the whole event a wide range of topics were discussed by the 17 expertspeakers: 

  • Modularisation of air cooled heat exchangers
  • Design challenges for HVAC system in modularisation projects
  • Structural engineering challenges associated with modular construction approach in petrochemical facilities
  • Acceleration of pipe rack scope in, out of sequence engineering of large modular project
  • Skid based approach for standardisation of process industry
  • Latest from NACE and API standards on materials and corrosion.

There was technical Q&A session after each of the talk where experts from industry put forward various questions.

This event was conducted under the aegis of IMechE India Branch North Panel and in sponsorship of Fluor Daniel India Ltd. Gurgaon. The lecture was well received; with approx. 50 engineers attended the event. Thanks to the volunteers from Fluor and special thanks to Vishal Goyal for coordinating well this event along with Avadhesh Bahadur and Pranjal.
