IMechE Southern India's Rail Wheel Factory technical visit

IMechE’s Southern India Panel conducted a technical visit for Members and non-members to Rail Wheel Factory, Yelahanka, Bangalore on 27 October 2018.

Rail Wheel Factory is the main manufacturing unit for all the wheels and axles used on railway rolling stock in India. It is 54 years old and a world class modern unit in its facilities and manufacturing processes. The factory works to high international standards and holds many quality certifications. Last year it complied with AAR standards as well.

Twenty young engineers and students were led by Arun Bhagra FIMechE and Magdhum M, Treasurer, Southern India Panel.

The visit began with a detailed briefing and video presentation on the factory by RWF officials.  The tour of the site included the rail wheel manufacturing unit, axle manufacturing unit, wheel and axle assembly units and Quality testing machines followed by lunch. It was a comprehensive and informative visit allowing the members of the group to ask many questions.
