Industrial Coatings Applicator Training Scheme (ICATS) now available at IMechE Argyll Ruane

Institution News Team

IMechE Argyll Ruane announces new course. Due to popular demand, they now offer the Industrial Coatings Applicator Training Scheme (ICATS) course.

The need for certified applicators

Industrial coatings applicators play a key role in protecting the nation’s infrastructure from deterioration. The cost and complexity of modern high-performance coatings has resulted in a high demand for skilled industrial coatings applicators to ensure correct preparation and application; reducing the risk of coating failures and defects, which can be extremely costly for businesses to rectify.

Many organisations now require industrial coatings professionals to be ICATS qualified to undertake work onsite, including the Highways Agency, Network Rail, the Environment Agency and many Oil & Gas companies.

How our ICATS course can help you

Accredited by the Institute of Corrosion, our ICATS course is ideal for organisations looking to upskill their workforce to become competent industrial coatings applicators using an accredited scheme, or individuals wanting to become a certified Industrial Coatings Applicator.

The course is split into theory and practical elements, with ongoing assessments throughout to test the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the information.

Content is broken down into 12 chapters, covering health and safety in painting, corrosion protection, standards and normative documents, working processes, adhesion and paint service, paint application by brush, access options, tools and equipment maintenance, aspects and impact of environment and painting inspection.

Learn from experienced trainers

Students will be trained by experienced ICATS trainer, Allan Keatt, and will have the opportunity to gain extensive hands-on experience. Allan has over 13 years’ experience working as a Coatings Inspector across a range of industries, enabling him to draw upon a wealth of knowledge and experience to support students with their learning during the course.

This course has been very successful at IMechE Fife NDT, where over 70 candidates have completed the course since launching earlier this year.

We are thrilled to have supported organisations within the Scottish region in upskilling their workforce and helping them gain industry-recognised qualifications. We look forward to launching the course at our training facility in Sheffield to further support organisations located across England,” says Chris Kirby, General Manager at IMechE Argyll Ruane.

Join the first ICATS course in Sheffield: 17 - 20 October 2022
