Institution News Team
The Institution’s President, Group Captain Mark Hunt, has been honoured by Her Majesty The Queen with an OBE.
Mark said: "I am extremely proud as an engineer to have my services recognised in this way.
"I have always been driven to raise the profile of engineers and the engineering profession. This recognition highlights the importance of engineers to society and helps inspire the next generation.
"I am fortunate to have a hugely supportive family and close circle of friends as well as a team of talented professional engineers who have all helped to make this recognition possible." Mark has been an Engineer Officer in the RAF for 18 years and is now the Type Airworthiness Authority for the RAF’s intelligence gathering, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance fleets of Sentinel and Sentry aircraft. His career has spanned appointments as Senior Engineer Officer on an operational Harrier squadron, predominantly in Afghanistan, and training young engineers at the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering. A Chartered Engineer, Mark has much experience in forming, training, motivating and leading teams of military and civilian personnel in peacetime and on operations worldwide. As the youngest Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Engineers, he indulges his three passions: promoting the engineering profession while championing education and charitable causes. Mark is an accomplished communicator and postgraduate. He is educated in leadership and business management, strategic defence and international politics. When elected, Mark became the youngest Fellow of both the Chartered Management Institute and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers with whom he has 13 years’ Board-level experience as Deputy President, a Member of Council and a Trustee on the Trustee Board.
