Hybrid Lecture: Sustainable Fuels and the Future of Motorsport

Institution News Team

Pat Symonds (F1), Paddy Lowe (Zero Petroleum), and Hywel Thomas (Mercedes AMG HPP) to present the cutting edge of fuels for motorsport.

This lecture is free and open to all: join us on the 1 October 2024 at 6:30pm either in person at One Birdcage Walk or online, simply register via the event website or email eventenquiries@imeche.org.

Motorsport is pioneering the use of sustainable fuels with internal-combustion engines. Several motorsport series already use renewable/low-carbon fuel blends, and Formula One will introduce 100% sustainable drop-in fuels from 2026. As well as reducing the carbon footprint of motorsport itself, these programmes demonstrate how ICE vehicle fleets (more than 1.4 bn vehicles worldwide) can be de-fossilized.

Organised by the Institution's Powertrain Systems and Fuels Group, this year's lecture will explore the impact of Sustainable Fuels on the future of motorsport, featuring an exclusive line-up of speakers from the highest levels of competition.

A panel of speakers from different areas of motorsport will highlight the different ways in which sustainable fuels are being used, and what we can expect to see in the future.

We look forward to welcoming you and your colleagues to our London HQ.
